The project is an investigation of the relationship between movement and clothing. I hope to ignite a consciousness of the interactions between the two as well as an awareness of our body. It began when I started taking a photo of myself every day before leaving the house. Then I would paste these photos into a book. When looking at the photos from the previous weeks, I would remember what it felt like to wear each item of clothing: if it was too tight, or restricted me from being able to reach for something, or if it made me feel attractive. I would write these comments next to the photos. This became the Daily Catalogue.
From this catalogue I created a performance and installation. This performance, entitled Have You Ever Thought of It This Way? took place as the audience entered the theater, finding seats and readying for an evening of dance. I had my entire wardrobe on stage with me, and a large mirror. I kept changing outfits and performing the same piece of choreography.
Performance: Alvin Ailey Dance Theater, NYC May 4th and 5th, 2012
