YOUR BODY AS A RESEARCH TOOL
Investigating design through a movement practice
In this dynamic workshop we will get you moving. No desks, no computers, no death by powerpoint!
This two-day intensive invites you to consider the potential of the body, and our physical experiences, in relation to designing objects, spaces and systems - being, as they are, inextricably linked. Together we will explore the body as a tool for research and as a material within the design process .
This playful and experimental workshop offers immediate practical benefits, e.g. presentation skills, research tools and performance-led approaches, as well as the long term advantages of developing an ongoing relationship with the body and movement to inform your individual design practices. Our aim is to equip you with an embodied understanding that will serve you throughout your studies and career.
During the two days, using your individual areas of interest and context report as a starting point, you will be guided through embodied practices, physical investigations and sensory experiments. Working individually and in groups, these tasks interrogate the relationship between our physical bodies and the environments, both natural and built, that we exist in and design for. This process will enable you to build a toolkit to enrich your design methodologies as you begin your thesis project.
Shifting from our minds to our bodies is a great method for unblocking, untangling, unpacking... a way of discovering new perspectives and fresh energy.
